Norris Tops Oscar Piastri in Brazilian Practice Session
The British driver has outscored his teammate at all of the past five grands prix.
Lando Norris edged out team-mate and title rival the Australian for the fastest time in the final moments of practice at the Brazilian Grand Prix.
Norris, who seized the championship lead from his teammate by one point after taking the win in the Mexican Grand Prix two weeks ago, beat the Melbourne-born driver by 0.023 seconds.
Earlier in the session, Piastri had been the leading McLaren for most of the session before sprint qualifying scheduled for the evening session.
Max Verstappen, the other racer in realistic title contention, sitting with a 36-point deficit behind Norris, ended up in 17th place as his Red Bull team followed a unique setup.
Verstappen's team-mate Yuki Tsunoda was the sole competitor to crash, albeit lightly, when he lost control at the fourth corner during the early running.
The Japanese lost control over the curbs on exit before sliding over the gravel trap, and was lucky to escape with just a minor contact of the wall.
The Ferrari of Lewis Hamilton also lost it, at the very end of the practice, turning around through the quick descending corner before the final corner on to the main straight.
The veteran wrapped up in 19th, trailing teammate the Monegasque driver.
The McLaren pair were far ahead of the rest of the field, with Nico Hulkenberg's Sauber third fastest, 0.619 seconds slower than Piastri's best.
The Aston Martin of the Spanish driver was fourth fastest, with the Sauber of Bortoleto fifth from the Mercedes of George Russell and the Alpine of Gasly and the Williams of Sainz.
